HOSS' HAPPYHOUSE
Feb 25 2009, 6:42 PM EST
I had to offer someone a set of guitar strings as an incentive to complete my level as i was gettin too many negative comments about the difficulty of it... i just wanted to see someone else other than my self on the scoreboard! My point is... are people giving up on tough levels too easily? due to the nature of LBP some levels out there ARE impossible but some just SEEM it.......... ps. its my first level and ive made better since : )

I don't usually let a level beat me unless something wierd happens...Like it falls apart around me. I've had that happen and left feedback and one guy played all my levels and gave them a one. Left me a comment saying I was rude for giving him a 1 star....The level fell apart...twice! The other people didn't leave comments. I thought i was helping the guy out. For the in game levels there are actual items you can use to decorate your character as well as make levels. I think people have more incentive to play these 'hard levels'. The online levels people usually shy away from some of the harder levels. Especially if they have played for 6 minutes, reach 1 tough part and then die trying to pass it. They get that frustrated feeling and don't want to play anymore. I made my first 3 levels hard, as in sometimes i wouldn't finish them myself. I knew them like the back of my hand. So to answer your question, "yes people are giving up on tough levels." Although I played one person's easy levels, got a key to one of his hard ones and since i liked his work I played the harder level even though it took me 3 chances to finish it. If you do make a real hard portion of the level make sure there is a double life entry right after and right before the difficult patch. Do you find this valuable? |

My newest level isn't hard, but i hope it is interesting to people. I found the perfect tester...My wife. Completely casual gamer who might play 1-2 hours a week, and thats because i make her play with me. LOL.If it takers her only 2 tries to win...i know i made the difficulty the right amount. Yeah definately give low marks for broken levels!half the work is making sure everythin's working and functioning properly! And people should be able to be honest about people's levels without them taking offence....OK somebody messaging my rumours level called it stupid and 'anoying' (like his spelling) that doesnt really help... but tell folk how to improve levels constructively, yes! Happyhouse is hard....very hard.... but very possible should anyone care enough to WANT to beat it.... im comforted in the knowledge that a lot of platformers i played as a kid were darn tricky... ghost n goblins for example! i feel that had some folk had got to certain parts in the level it wouldve been rated slightly higher as because it was my first level it got better as it went on,so some of the more fun parts of the level probably havent even been played.... i like the thought of it been v hard but because of the comments about the difficulty ive succumbed and made following levels easier! ; )

yeah my gf prefers to see lbp on the big screen other than ,say, call of duty where shes in the presence of an over focused(dont walk past the tv...even for a second!) intense nutter!saying that lbp planet keeps me up til the small hours while she sleeps! its addictive....constantly on the look out for ideas for levels.... and my new slogan is ONE DAY I WILL MAKE A GREAT LEVEL!! ; )

I've even skipped through levels if I die on it after a long play. There is definitely a balance between fun and challenge to achieve. I think as the community grows, the quality of levels get better, and us creators start unlocking more creative potential, we'll figure out what that balance is Do you find this valuable? |

Absolutely!im on my fourth level and starting to get a real feel for it....reaction times between knowing what u want to do and actually doing it are quicker which speeds up the whole creating process!and little things like realising i can make any material float by sticking 'invisible' dark matter have helped my levels look better! the communitys expandin at a massive rate........

I need to find the original post to put my thoughts out on it though. Do you find this valuable? |

No. Your thinking of Borris and Natasha. Boris Nerdlinger is the guy from Seinfeld. I saw that a few days ago. Believe me.
