PS3 Trouble

Does anyone know a good way to get a PS3 fixed? I can't afford the 150 dollar charge from sony (my warranty is expired) but my ps3 won't turn on. I suspect the power supply on the unit is broken. Please help!!! Do you find this valuable?

Pop open the case (see if you can get a blueprint online or search for help) and see if your power supply connection has unhooked, if it has, try to find some way to secure it soldering would be best but electrical tape should work just fine. You might be able to locate a replacement power supply at Radio Shack if the one that's currently in your PS3 is toast. Make sure you have the right amperage and voltage for the new power supply if you purchase one, too much of either will blow your power connection board. If you have never done anything like this you may want to find a friend that is comfortable with electronics to help you.

How did it happen? Was there a power surge through your area? What kind of protection do you have for your PS3 plug?

Something similar happened to my laptop last year but I was able to reattach the power cord to the charging circuit pretty well.

OK, there's no way my mom will let me fix it myself, I was at my cousin's house and was forced to use some crappy surge protector, and UNDERX is an ignorant [insertcursewordhere]. I said I CAN'T PAY THE 150. Do you find this valuable?

Can't fix it yourself, and cant pay the 150 to ship it back (dont forget about shipping cost too, it would be around 175 all told) ...

You don't really have options then, you have a glorified paperweight :(
