Conceptual problem (Pistons)
Nov 6 2008, 4:04 PM EST
I have a "springboard" made of a wood block and a piston. It work well. I link it to a proximity sensor to activate it when a sackboy is on. It work well and make him jump like superman. My problem is that my "springboard" stay on the higher position and never return to his original "ready to lauch" position.Any suggestion ? 2 out of 2 found this valuable. Do you?

The "springboard" is only active when a sackperson is on it because you're using a proximity sensor. I would suggest a switch or button next to it to turn it on and off so your sackperson can activate it and it will continuously reload itself after each spring.

But i don't want it to continusly go up and down. Only Go up when sackboy is on, (launch him on another higher plateform) and then go back to his original position and be ready for another launching.

I'm not sure how you would get it to only lower back to it's original position and then stop and be ready to repeat the whole process. It's an interesting problem. I'll think about it for a while and see if I can come up with something.

Maybe if i set my proximity detector to "One Shot" .... i'll try and repost later !

i was working on this same concept last night... took some trial and error but i figured it out. my question is what if you want to bounce off it with a jump instead of it automatically taking off like a launch pad? like the way that sonic act 3 level has them...

set the sensor to directional, it will go up when he is on it then return to its resting position.

I created a sackboy launcher for a tank,Its made with 2 stiff pistons. Minimum lenght being 0.5 and maximum 12, they both use Flipper Motion Out A platform is on top of the two with a button on top of it, this button is conected to the 2 pistons set as "one shot" It works just like i think you want it to, it just sends the sackboy flying to the roof (or whatever falls on top) and then both pistons slowly go back to their original position (its not immediate) Hope this helps, maybe you can replace the button with your sensor 3 out of 3 found this valuable. Just follow what moomba has said, change the sensor switch to directional, that way when the sensor is triggered the platform will shoot up, when its not triggered it will be down. Also make sure your piston is attached to the base 1st then the moving platform, otherwise your piston will be backwards (i.e. always up, when triggered it goes down). If you've already set it up you can just change set the piston to 'Backwards' under the tweak menu. Do you find this valuable? |

"For your bouncing effect I would suggest using elastic or springs like the platforms on the wedding level where you jump on them to bounce higher and higher. Pistons won't work very well as they are really only up or down, however you could set the strength of the piston lower and see if that helps. Do you find this valuable? |

have both a switch and a sensor, meaning you can reset it with the button and then use it again and again ? :D

Sorry to tag on the end of your question, but does anyone have any idea how to move two separate (very slim) pieces connected by a piston easily? It's a right pain in the arse to make the maximum length like 40 and then move the top bit and then the bottom bit and then the top bit and so on...I'd rather move the whole thing at once, it's not something I can glue right?Any suggestions? go_rators, I think I understand your problem - you want to move two connected (but not glued) objects around. It's a silly thing that isn't covered in the tutorials, that I remember. The simple solution is to use the popit cursor like a mouse. For example: if you just want to move one icon on your desktop, you click on it and move it around. If you want to move a group of objects, highlight them all by holding down the mouse button and drawing a little square around them. Popit cursor works the same way. Just hold down the X button and draw a little rectangle around the peices you want to move all at once.I hope that helps - I'm not sure if I answered your question or not. 3 out of 3 found this valuable. RE: Bouncing on a piston.I thought that was what the "flipper" option was for. That's the way the piston cannon in the Mines is set up. It's a flipper piston. Always resets to the bottom when it's done, and throws you a set distance by the power applied. Do you find this valuable? |

HAHA! OMG that's amazing. I've been totally frustrated by this problem. Whenever you set a piston to "stiff" it makes it impossible to move the obect around that it's connected to. I've been using the "capture object" tool to highlight the thing, then I delete the old object and create a new one through my objects menu. This is sooo much easier. Thank you for that answer. Thanks for nothing tutorial. Do you find this valuable? |
